Bayan Baru Toastmasters Club Achievements in 2017
1) President’s Distinguished Club Award for 2016/2017 term.
The 16th consecutive time that BBTMC has achieved the highest club award (achieving at least 9 out of 10 Distinguished Club Performance Goals set by Toastmasters International)

2) In 2017, four (4) of our club members received Triple Crown Awards (Awarded by District 51 for individual achievement of 3 Education or Leadership awards or more in a single term 2016/2017)

3) In December 2017, BBTMC was the first club in Malaysia (District 51 and District 102) to achieve 7 DCP goals set by Toastmasters International.

4) Speechcraft Sessions were run from February to June 2017 for new joiners to gain more intensive knowledge in communication and leadership outside of the normal meeting environment which is more relaxed, fun and held at club members’ residences with potluck style food. Education sessions conducted by the club’s own senior members with vast experience in their fields.

5) Youth Leadership Program held in October 2017 with Methodist Boy’s School, Georgetown to give public speaking skills training to students and graduation ceremony was held during the BBTMC meeting, with students presenting their speeches in a real life Toastmasters Club setting.

6) BBTMC held the Club Appreciation / Installation Dinner cum Humorous Speech contest at the Evergreeen Laurel Hotel, Gurney Drive, Georgetown, Penang (5 Star rated) in August 2017 with 80 + guests and members during the dinner.

7) Joint Meeting held with YMCA Toastmasters Club of Penang in April 2017.

8) Joint Meeting held with Chua Chu Kang Toastmasters Club of Singapore in June 2017. BBTMC was the one and only club considered for their joint meeting, thus BBTMC organised a special session with CCK TMC and had a fantastic experience in sharing best practices in speaking, evaluating and club organisation.

9) In District 51, Division N, both the prepared Speeches (International and Humorous Speeches) Champions are from BBTMC for the year 2017. Both moved on to the District 51 (Northern Peninsular Malaysia) levels, where Michael Xavier went on to win 1st Runner Up in the International Speech Contest and Anand Raj was 2nd Runner Up for the Humorous Speech Contest.

10) The only Toastmasters Club that had club members appointed as Adjudicators for the World Scholar’s Cup (Team Debate) Penang leg. The members were Zeheera Ali, Hasrul Andry and Sailesh Maganlal. All other Adjudicators were teachers, lecturers and other educators from around Penang.

11) BBTMC members were actively taking up roles in the Area, Division and District level activities such as the Speech Contests, Club Officers Training, Team Building and Leadership Workshop Series as Organising Committee members, Speakers and Facilitators.

12) Three (3) Speech Marathons held on 5th Thursdays of the month, as extra meetings with extra speaking slots to assist in getting members to have more speaking opportunities. BBTMC normal meetings are on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month.

13) Mentor assignment from senior and experienced speakers within the club are assigned to all new members joining BBTMC to guide them in their Toastmasters journey and speech development.

14) BBTMC had 2 Area Directors serving in District 51, in Rena Leong for Area N2 and Jason Ng for Area N4

15) Rena Leong achieved the award and title Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM), the highest individual award from Toastmasters International.

16) BBTMC is the Largest English community (Open) Toastmasters Club in District 51 (Northern Peninsular Malaysia) for 2017
